Feldar is a writing app with AI built into the page. It can suggest the next
lines, rework a paragraph, plan a chapter as scenes or give you a first read.
Your own words stay black. Feldar's suggestions arrive in blue or in a card, and
they stay in your book only if you accept them.
Free to start with 500 credits, no credit card. In your browser or on macOS.
Three rules the AI follows
There are two ways to write a book with AI. In one, the machine writes and you
tidy up after it. In the other, you write and the AI works on what you are
writing, when you ask. Feldar is built for the second.
Nothing goes in without you
Suggestions wait for you to press Accept, Apply or Save card, and Draft
Page writes only when you press it. Dismiss a suggestion and the page is
exactly as you left it.
You can see what came from where
New AI writing is blue until you accept it. Rewrites show the changed
words. The Writing record keeps a private account of what you typed and
what came through Feldar.
It works from your book
Feldar draws on the page you are on, the rest of the project, your Canvas
and your own voice sample. It does not train AI models on any of it.
Continue from here, when the next sentence won't come
Hover over the writing caret and a short menu opens. What it offers depends on
where the caret is. You will probably dismiss more lines than you keep, and that
is fine: a wrong suggestion often shows you what the right line is.
What the caret offers
At the end of a paragraph: Continue from here, Extend
paragraph, Add transition, Add scene detail, Start dialogue, Expand beat.
The new lines appear in blue, in place, so you read them in the flow of
your own sentences. Accept keeps them. Dismiss, or Escape, takes them
away.
Revise asks for another version: Try again, Shorter, Longer, More
interiority, More physical detail, Less dialogue, More direct or More
subtle.
The rest of the toolkit, from line edit to first read
Select a passage: Ask, Instruct or Define
Select a few lines and a menu appears. Ask puts a question about the
passage: is this too slow, whose head are we in. Instruct takes a
plain request, such as "Slow it down" or "She's angrier than this,
and says less", and shows the changes for you to accept or dismiss.
Define holds the named rewrites:
The rewrite comes back in a card with the added words marked. Apply
keeps it, Escape keeps your original, and Undo reverses an applied
change.
Teach it your voice with Voice & Style
A rewrite is only useful if it sounds like you. In Settings, under
Voice & Style, paste a sample of your own prose, at least 600
words, with its paragraphs and punctuation as you wrote them. Feldar
uses it when it writes and rewrites, for every project or only the
one you choose. As a project grows, Feldar turns to the project's own
prose.
Choose a passage you are proud of rather than your latest. If you
write a literary novel and a cosy mystery, give each project its own
sample.
Plan a chapter, then draft it or write it
Every page has an Outline. Describe the next story beats, choose how
many scenes you want, and Generate scenes gives each one a title and
a short description. Change them until the plan is yours.
Then write the chapter with the scenes beside you, or press Draft
Page for a first pass at the word target you set, one page or
several at a time. Draft Page writes the most of any tool, so treat
what it gives you as a sketch to write over.
Chat sits beside the page and knows which book you are in. Ask what
could happen next, where the page drags, or what a minor character
would really say. Attach a research PDF, a photo of the house your
story is set in or your workshop notes, and talk about those too.
Read aloud reads a reply to you.
Lens turns Chat into a panel of six readers: Critic, Cheerleader,
Poet, Editor, Plotter and Reader. Call one with an @mention, such as
@critic, or let them debate and then sum up.
Ask Chat to add a character to your Canvas or update a location, and
it proposes the card. You save it or dismiss it.
See where readers lean in, with Reader reactions
Pick an audience: general readers, fantasy readers, book club
readers, creative writing students or literary magazine editors.
Reader reactions writes a short reader report and places markers in
the margin of your manuscript, at the moments that drew a response.
It is a simulation, not a focus group. Use it to find the questions
worth asking your real readers.
Run a revision pass with Checks
Checks reads the page with one of five passes:
Fix critical mistakes (grammar and spelling)
Improve accuracy and clarity
Tighten word choice
Smooth dialogue transitions
Clarify character perspectives
Issues are marked in the text. For each one, Accept the fix, ask
Feldar to Rewrite for me or Try again, or Discard it. Opening Checks
never changes your prose.
Choose the model for each job
Feldar works with six models: GPT-6 Astra, Sol and Luna from OpenAI,
and Claude Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 from Anthropic. Set one
for each feature in Settings, or switch in Chat's model picker. Where
a model supports it, you can also choose how long it reasons before
it answers.
Starter uses GPT-6 Luna. Core has every model except GPT-6 Astra. Pro
and Ultra have all six. Models write differently, so try two on the
same passage and keep the one that sounds more like your book.
What Feldar knows about your book
A suggestion is only as good as what the AI can see. For each request, Feldar
gathers the context that matters from your project. It does not hold the whole
manuscript in mind at once, so anything you never want it to get wrong belongs
on the Canvas.
The page you are on
The text around the caret or the selection, and what came just before it, across page breaks.
The rest of the project
Relevant passages from other pages of the book, so names and events carry over.
Your Canvas
Character, location, plot, item, faction and note cards, and how they link.
Your voice
Your Voice & Style sample, and later the project's own prose.
Many novelists distrust AI writing tools, and the reasons are serious. The
prose can drift toward a smooth average. Publishers, agents and contests are
still setting their rules. And it is hard to prove later how a book was
made. Here is what Feldar does about each.
Your voice
Feldar's tools work at the scale of a sentence, a paragraph or a scene, not a
whole book. The named rewrites each do one narrow thing, so you know what you
asked for. Suggestions follow your Voice & Style sample. Every change waits
for your decision, and you can write an entire novel in Feldar without
pressing a single AI button.
Publishers, agents and contests
Rules differ, and they change. Some magazines and contests refuse any
AI-generated text. Amazon's
KDP content guidelines
ask you to disclose AI-generated text, images or translations, but not
AI-assisted work, where you wrote the content and used AI to edit, refine or
check it (checked November 5, 2026). Read the rules for each place you
submit to.
Whatever the rules say, you need to know what is in your book. The Writing
record notes, as you write, which words you typed by hand and which came
through Feldar's tools, along with your active days, active time and the
models used. It is private to you. It cannot see text written somewhere else
and typed in by hand, and it is not available in the example project.
Why we built it.
Your rights and your data
Feldar does not use your writing to train AI models. The words, ideas,
drafts, notes and worlds you create in Feldar remain yours.
What Feldar's AI won't do
Change your page on its own
Feldar's AI touches your manuscript only when you ask, and its suggestions wait for your OK.
Train on your writing
Your manuscript is not used to train AI models.
Claim your book
What you write in Feldar belongs to you.
Pretend to remember everything
It works from the context it gathers for each request. Keep what matters on the Canvas.
Hide what it wrote
Blue lines, marked rewrites and a Writing record show where its words went.
Lock you out of your book
If credits run out, AI actions pause. Writing and export never do.
Credits, explained
Feldar's AI features run on credits. Rewrites, Continue from here, Chat, Lens,
Checks, Generate scenes and Draft Page use them. Writing, planning by hand,
organizing your Library and arranging the Canvas never do.

The simplest way to see what your book will use is to work on a chapter on
the free plan and look at Usage in Settings.
Draft Page can write a first pass of a page from your scene plan, and
nothing stops you pressing it again and again. But Feldar is not built to
write books on its own. Each tool waits for your decision, and the
results read best as material you write over. If you want a tool that
produces a whole manuscript from a prompt, Feldar is the wrong choice.
What is the best AI for writing a novel?
It depends on how you want to work. To talk through a plot, ChatGPT or
Claude on its own may be enough. Sudowrite is built around AI drafting
and brainstorming for fiction. Novelcrafter lets you connect your own AI
key. Feldar is for novelists who want AI on the page, with their plan and
story world beside it, and every change left to them. Our
comparisons go through the differences.
Will my book sound like AI?
Not if the sentences stay yours. Give Feldar a Voice & Style sample,
use the narrow rewrites rather than wholesale drafting, and read every
suggestion as you would a note from an editor. Dismiss anything that
doesn't sound like your book.
Do I have to disclose AI use when I publish?
That depends on the publisher, agent or contest. Amazon KDP asks you to
disclose AI-generated text, images or translations, but not AI-assisted
editing of work you wrote (as of November 5, 2026). Some contests ban AI
text outright. Feldar's Writing record helps you answer accurately,
because it shows which words came from you and which came through
Feldar.
Will Feldar help my writing pass an AI detector?
No. Feldar does not try to disguise AI text. It does the opposite: it
marks new AI writing in blue and keeps a record of what came from where,
so you can be honest about your process instead of guessing what a
detector will say.
Does Feldar train AI on my manuscript?
No. Feldar does not use your writing to train AI models, and you own
everything you write in it.
Can I use Feldar without the AI?
Yes. The editor, the Outline, the Canvas, the Library and import and
export all work without AI, and none of them use credits. You can write
scenes by hand, build your Canvas card by card, and never press an AI
button.
Is it free to try?
Yes. The Starter plan is free, with 500 credits for AI features and no
credit card. Paid plans start at $20 a month.
Does Feldar work in languages other than English?
No. The app is in English. It runs at feldar.com in a browser and as
a Mac app.
